Material Impact is a Boston firm founded in 2015 by Carmichael Roberts and Adam Sharkawy, both with materials science PhDs. Fund III closed at $352M in November 2023, oversubscribed, making it the largest dedicated materials fund in venture. The thesis is first money in for first-of-their-kind material science companies across food, water, manufacturing, transport, healthcare, biomanufacturing and robotics. Industrial-relevant holdings include 6K in plasma materials, GenPhoenix in upcycled leather, Talus Renewables in distributed ammonia and Sonera in health sensing.
